Well, here we are at the end of our Rotary year! This is my last issue of Spoke and Monday will be my last meeting before leaving to go to the Rotary International Convention in Calgary. Official changeover will take place at the Croydon Park Club on Monday
21st July.
Thank you for the opportunity of serving as your President!
Burwood Council and Burwood Police
Over the last month, I have had the pleasure of working with Burwood Police and Burwood Council on a couple of very special projects.
The Rotary Wellness Room
Superintendent Christine McDonald, from the Burwood Police Area Command, wanted help to set up a “Rotary Wellness Room” at Burwood Police Station. The room is to cater for staff to be able to switch off after a strenuous shift and to recharge their batteries. Superintendent Christine wants to name it the “Rotary Wellness Room”, you may or may not know that Christine is an honorary member of Drummoyne Rotary Club. So, she reached out for help with our branding and our District Governor recommended she contact me. I will be attending the opening of the room on Monday 2nd June, so will be able to report to you all on Monday night.
Burwood Council Safety Awareness Video
The second project I have been involved with is the making of two videos to assist the community with safety awareness, including, elder fraud, online scams, identity theft and home security. It is being done in partnership with Burwood Police and titled “Top Tips with Burwood Cops”. We have had preliminary meetings and the videos will be shot next Wednesday 4th June.
June is Fellowship Month

What a great time to reflect on your hobbies, interests, or profession and connect with a fellowship. Rotary Fellowships are international, independently organised groups of people who have a common interest or profession. They host activities and networking events, and they offer professional development opportunities virtually and around the world. With more than 100 officially recognised fellowships, you have so many ways to connect and build community with new friends throughout the Rotary world. Enhance your Rotary experience with interests from camping, 4x4, quilting, wine and travel, there is something for everyone!
BBQ
We will be hosting a BBQ for Burwood Council at the Enfield Aquatic Centre, 8 Portland Street Enfield, on Saturday 7th June, 11am to 1pm. Please let Keith Weeding know if you can help?
Rotary Pacific Zone Conference
Coolangatta is the venue for the 2025 Rotary Pacific Zone Conference, taking place from 30 October to 2 November 2025. We are encouraging all Rotarians and Rotaractors to come together. All are welcome. You will be inspired and motivated as we connect and share ideas to grow Rotary and activate the strategic priorities of Rotary International and The Rotary Foundation. Our 2025 event will be held at the Twin Towns Conference Centre. There are plenty of things you can do in this famous part of Australia and its hinterland before or after the conference.
