MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT

Last meeting's presentation fro mthe amazing Patricia Abraham was truly inspiring and made me feel like there is just so much more that we can all do to help those in our community.
 
The tireless work of Eurella Community Services is something I hope we can all draw on when we continue to do our work for the community and for abroad through Rotary.
 
Thank you again Patricia for the amazing presentation. I know that you have me thinking about more ways we can all make a difference to those who need it most in our community.
 
Tomorrow we will be hearing from PDG Stephen Humphreys to talk about Rotary Health and some amazing opportunities that come from that.
 
Stephen retired 10 years ago after 40 years as a registered retail pharmacist.Stephen has been a Rotarian for 20 years having joined the Rotary Club of Camden in 2002. He was
President of that Club in 2008/2009 and again in 2019/2020.

Stephen was an Assistant Governor in D9675 for 3 years, Chair of the District Conference Committee in 2012 and Co-Chair of the cancelled combined District Conference Committee in 2020.

Stephen was District Governor of D9675 in 2016/2017.

He is currently Chair of the District Strategic Planning Committee and the District Webmaster.

Stephen is a very keen golfer and was President of Camden Golf Club for 20 years, retiring 2 years ago.

Stephen and Judith have recently celebtrated their 51 st wedding anniversary. They have three children, four grandsons one granddaughter.

Stephen and Judith have lived in the Macarthur area for most of their married life.
Stephen was appointed to the Board of Australian Rotary Health 4 years ago and elected Chairman-Elect at the end of 2022.
 
Just a reminder that tickets for the 2024 District Conference (8-10 March 2024) are now on sale on the District website. I will provide details later in this email.

District Conference 8-10 March 2024 tickets on sale now

Early bird tickets for District Conference 2024 are now on sale!
 
I have purchased my tickets and I encourage all of you to hurry before the early bird sale runs out on 30 November 2023.
 
Conference will be held at the Novotel Wollongong Northbeach in Wollongong on 8-10 March 2024.
 
There will be speakers covering topical subjects and important Rotary projects.
 
Come and join us for a weekend of learning and fun. Meet fellow Rotarians who care about creating a better world.
 
I would love for you all to join me in March next year.
 
 

MINUTES FROM THE PREVIOUS MEETING - 14 August 2023

President's Report - 
 
President Hugo spoke about creating a pamphlet to letterbox the local area with. He set up a committee including Dennise, John, Sana and Keith to help create the pamphlet and Dennise was to lead.
 
He also spoke informed the club that they had successfully received $10,000  from Burwood RSL for the purchase of a new BBQ and that the money would hit the accoutns very soon. On top of that, the Club had been approached by Corro 88 Club asking us to apply and President Hugo asked the Club if they had any suggestions.
 
 
Dennis suggested that the money go to Eurella Community Services.
 
Hugo talked about the posters that he and PP John had picked up at the President's dinner and asked for suggestions abotu where he could ask council to put them in Public.
 
He also dsitributed new badges that Dennise had acquired and John stated that he would bring the box to store them in for the next meeting.
 
Hugo also announced that he was changing the fee of the membership to $420. Irene to send out the statement.
 
Comedy with a cause was going to go ahead with Sana to book. Looking at a date in February. Walter mentioned that the last one was great but hadn't been attended by enough people. We need to enocurage more ticket sales.

Membership - John recapped the Presidents Meeting Bankstown Sports
 
Spoke about the Carboot sleep out and how it works and how we should do it here in Burwood. He said that we could potentially hold in on the first day of winter and ask the council and the Westfield to help accomodate.

Patricia from Eurella Community Services spoke about the work that Eurella does.
 
She spoke about their upcoming community kitchen where they will fit out a commercial kitchen and cook and sell food.
 
She also spoke about their plan to provide community housing for people.

Fellows here is the latest from Juvie in Gingoog, they returned from the Helping Hand mission, and are now preparing for the next. We have some donations coming in, thank you, and will send every dollar over for these missions.

Dear Friends and supporters,

I received another email from Juvie and MinPRA in Gingoog. Somehow, miraculously they avoided much damage to themselves. On the compound it appears two fruit trees came down and the other crop was damaged. On the mountain property the damage was even less. They hate asking for help but they would like to help the island of Dinagat where Vera took a team on a SewAID Mission a couple of years ago.

Rotary Youth Exchange - making a difference - Reflections from a Reunion 30 years later.
 
The Year is 1991, two busses full of Rotary Exchange Students enter a parking lot in Sydney after 3 weeks around Australia on the “Capricorn Ramble Tour”. Saying goodbye was heart-breaking, knowing that we would soon be back home and maybe never see each other again.
 
Jumping to September 2021, downtown Frankfurt on a Friday afternoon in brilliant weather. Stepping out of the car to greet 3 people I have not seen for 30 year in front of their hotel.

Burwood Rotary 50th Anniversary Charitable Trust
The Rotary Club of Burwood has created the 50th Anniversary Charitable Trust with the overall charitable purpose of "relieving poverty and the advancement of education or any other matter beneficial to the community". Funds are awarded to persons who satisfy the Trustees that they are financially disadvantaged and are undertaking some form of further study/sporting endeavour beneficial to themselves and to the community in general.
