MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT

Hey everyone,

We're officially back for 2024!

First things first: Don't forget to grab your official Burwood Rotary shirt – it's the perfect way to show your club pride and support our local projects.

We're reconvening tomorrow! I'll unfortunately be absent, but the fabulous Dennise Herrick will be stepping up to chair – I have no doubt it will be an inspiring and productive session to talk about her upcoming year as President.

Remember, Rotary thrives on the dedication of its members. So, get ready to roll up your sleeves and make a difference! Speaking of rolling up sleeves, we're hosting a BBQ for the Burwood Council on the 24th, and we need YOU!  Sign up to volunteer and ensure it's a memorable day for everyone.

Looking forward to seeing you all tomorrow and throughout the year! Remember, together, we can make a real and lasting impact on our community.

See you on Monday night,

Hugo Robinson
President
Rotary Club of Burwood

Burwood Rotary was visited by Dr. Joachim Gerner all the way from the Rotary Club of Heidelberg-Alte Brücke in Germany!

Dr Gerner was here visiting his daughter in Croydon and we were so thankful for him coming to speak to us.

He shared all the amazing initiatives the Heidelberg Club was involved in and even about his own experiences as Deputy Mayor of the city.

One thing I love about Rotary is this: no matter where you are in the world, our common goals and determination to help those here and abroad remains universal.

It’s also universal that local government obsessives like Gerner and I seem to join Rotary!

Menander. Six people visit schools to educate children. There is trafficking and pregnancy is rampant.   They don't know about sex education and sexual and mental health. They have to be careful about how they approach the subject.

Girls may be pushed to be married for a dowry rather than love. Need to improve education re sex education and sexual health

Report from Gingoog by PP Walter Bock

Dear Friends and supporters,

I received another email from Juvie and MinPRA in Gingoog. Somehow, miraculously they avoided much damage to themselves. On the compound it appears two fruit trees came down and the other crop was damaged. On the mountain property the damage was even less. They hate asking for help but they would like to help the island of Dinagat where Vera took a team on a SewAID Mission a couple of years ago.

The Year is 1991, two busses full of Rotary Exchange Students enter a parking lot in Sydney after 3 weeks around Australia on the “Capricorn Ramble Tour”. Saying goodbye was heart-breaking, knowing that we would soon be back home and maybe never see each other again.

Jumping to September 2021, downtown Frankfurt on a Friday afternoon in brilliant weather. Stepping out of the car to greet 3 people I have not seen for 30 year in front of their hotel.
