Burwood Rotary meeting tonight, Monday 9th May, 2022 .
Hi Fellows and Friends
It seems such a long time since we last meet at the Coro Club on the 11th April. There was and has been a lot going on behind the scenes.
ANZAC DAY BREAKFAST
Firstly, a special thank you to Faye and Sam for putting on a spectacular Anzac breakfast function and to all the helpers and attendees.
The event raised over $5500 for Days for Girls. Such a worthwhile cause. It was wonderful to see our Children and Grandchildren attend ,bigger and better next year.
PRIDE OF WORKMANSHIP AWARDS 20th June ,this is growing into a major event and Keith has organised for our District Governor Jeremy Wright to attend along with our Mayor, John Faker.
Our special Guest Speaker will be Aya Murakami ,a Rotary Peace Scholar and a wonderful presenter.
All we have to do is Nominate suitable recipients for this prestigious award ,and that shouldn’t be too difficult with our breath of social business and personal contacts.
ANNA-MARIE SANNI will be presenting at our meeting next Monday. Come along and hear the Anna-Marie story, what drives and motivates her, her Family /work and why she joined Burwood Rotary, and what she wishes to achieve in her Rotary journey.
UKRANIAN REFUGEE SUPPORT Paul Sarks has been in contact with the Ukranian Catholic Church in Lidcombe and their parish priest. Paul will present a plan of assistance in the coming weeks.
I look forward to you company next Monday, and Partners are always welcome .
Board Meeting tonight. I would like to have a quick Board meeting night. I expect the regular meeting will finish at about 7-30 and our meeting should finish by 8 to 8-15 at the latest.
Vale Jerald Elias
I have learnt this morning the sad news from Lucy Elias that our long serving member Jerald Elias had passed away on the 15 April and the funeral was held at Our Lady of Lebanon last Thursday,
Unfortunately we did not know at the time to attend the funeral , but we are going to miss Gerald
for his long loyal service to the club, and for the nice person he was. Pp Fuad
Some of the many comments from Fellows
I spoke to Lucy and she said it was sudden. Jerald was in Canterbury Hospital for the past 4 weeks dealing with circulation issues as I understand. He passed away in the early hours of Easter Saturday. He loved Rotary and Lucy remembered how he would negotiate with the club regarding the meal costs at the functions. It was a long time member of Burwood Rotary, always looking after the front door from the time I joined the club in any event. Sorry to see him go. We need to send a card and flowers to Lucy. Pp Tim
We were also saddened to hear from Lucy this morning of Jerald’s passing. He was an excellent long serving Rotarian, a gentleman and will be sadly missed. Alf & Mary
Jerald was indeed one of the finest real Rotarians Burwood ever had. He had the clubs interest at heart even to the point of obsession. There was nobody better looking after the money than Jerald. It is sad indeed that we were not able to go to the funeral. Knowing Jerald he is up there making a better deal. Lucy called this week and it appears Jerald passed away in his sleep, after she and other family members left him with “See you tomorrow” in hospital. I am one that misses him dearly. Pp Walter
I join with all the sentiments expressed, and to Lucy our sympathies and condolences with respect for all Gerald did for the rotary club of Burwood He was a great stalwart. PDG Paul
