About NYSF
The NYSF attracts and retains Australian science and technology talent by immersing students in what a career in STEM looks like in real life. Hearing about non-typical jobs and connecting with other like-minded young people has life-long impact. Over 39 years, the NYSF has connected over 14,000 young Australians with science and technology futures.
CEO of the NYSF, Dr Melanie Bagg, said “the NYSF is all about helping a young person who has an interest in science and technology explore what that means beyond the classroom, beyond the subjects and how to get there. We encourage a broad range of students with varied academic abilities, as STEM is for everyone. NYSF is focussed on delivering a diverse and highly skilled future STEM workforce to meet the predicted skills shortage in Australia.”
The NYSF attracts a diverse range of students from all over Australia. In 2023, 41.5% of participants are from remote and regional areas of Australia, and 61% are young women. An accessible program, 98 students in need have received scholarships, made possible by the Department of Industry, Science and Resources, The Western Australian Department of Jobs, Tourism, Science & Innovation, the NSW Office of the Chief Scientist and Engineer and private donors. Rotary clubs across Australia also provide funding support to hundreds of students in their local community.
“The NYSF experience not only provides exclusive and interactive access to STEM identities and facilities most of us have only dreamt of, but it builds a lot of confidence and illustrates the many pathways to a great career in science and technology. This empowers students to achieve their personal best and find a support network as they start their final year at school.”
Support from the Australian Government through the National Innovation Science Agenda (NISA), our Major Partner, Lockheed Martin Australia, our host universities and a range of other partners has ensured the NYSF continues to deliver unique and high-quality, immersive STEM programs in Australia.
From Jesslyn Duong after attending NYSF 2023
Hi Mr Whitney,
Wishing you a wonderful and prosperous 2023!
Thank you so much for your support throughout the application process of NYSF. This life-changing opportunity would truly not be possible without your support and the support of Burwood Rotary. The program was amazing, I am truly so lucky to have created so many fun and fantastic memories with everyone involved, it was truly a once in a lifetime opportunity and I’m so glad and grateful I was able to meet so many inspirational individuals as well as wonderful peers. While also expanding my knowledge on so many wonderful STEM career options, hearing the first hand experiences from researchers and professions has truly inspired me to pursue a career in biomedicine and biotechnology.
Once again, I would like to thank you for all the guidance and support that you and the club have provided and will always be forever grateful.
I am looking forward to hearing from you soon and hope you had a wonderful summer!
From Janette Weeding BPWS
Greetings,
As you may recall the BPWS Communities Expo (27th October) at Burwood Park was postponed, due to being washed out. We have rescheduled the event for Wednesday 15th March 2023. It is important to now to advertise the event in your 2023 monthly calendar and newsletters, and on behalf of BPW Strathfield I thank you for your commitment to support our initiative.
I have attached the flyer so the Expo can be communicated through your media platforms. We are not alone seeking solutions to developing community wellbeing and I also see this event fitting into our local State member Jason Yat-SenLi’s “Community Wellbeing 2030 Plan”
We also look forward to having a snack at the Burwood Rotary Sausage Sizzle and appreciate their continued support.
We look forward to meeting you all and encourage all to connect with our mutual local programs.
Locally BPWS aims to:
Ø We build awareness of local programs/services to our diverse local community.
Ø Advocate for women’s financial security and superannuation equality
Ø Build relationships, for businesses and organisations to recognise the Women’s Empowerment Principals (WEPs), part of the UN Global Compact which Australian Government is a signatory.
Is it possible to have our event publicised in your next newsletter which includes the eventbrite link below.
Warm regards,
Janette WEEDING President BPWS

Tree of Joy 2022
Good Afternoon,
Firstly, I just wanted to thank you for your Support with the Tree of Joy. This initiative could not have been possible without your Support.
The response was overwhelming and we were able to fulfil all the requirements for the Organisations and Schools that we were supporting through the Tree of Joy.
We also reached out with the additional gifts to the Children's Hospital at Westmead, St Vincent's De Paul and Concord Hospital. They too were very appreciative of these Gifts for patients and families.
I look forward to collaborating together later this year.
Have a great week.
