No Meeting tonight
President' s report
Hi Fellows,
Thankyou to those that attended last night’s home meeting at Keith and Jeanette’s.
If open discussion is the mark of a good meeting ,I think we achieved that. We discussed a Christmas Family breakfast , but felt that time to organise was not appropriate.
Sam suggested an Easter Family Breakfast/Lunch at his Warehouse, all agreed that this was a perfect location and timing. We need a committee to organise this ,Sam has asked for volunteers, Sam and two others. The suggested date was Sunday 10th April. This is a week before Easter Sunday ,as many of us could/would be away for Easter
Tree of Joy. BCWS are not able to run this wonderful Rotary program this year , they are still working from home. I suggested to BCWS that Burwood Rotary could organise the collection and delivery of Gifts, if they could prepare the donation cards. We are still to hear back from BCWS
* RYLA entries close very shortly ,we don’t have any applications at this stage , can you nominate a young person for this most worthwhile program
*Combined Christmas Dinner and our Official Change Over. Monday 13th December ,transferred from 28th June , location to follow
* Gods Love Church ,Sam and Fred. along with Brooke Endicott Director of Community Life from Burwood Council attended a meeting last Friday. With the purpose to assist this church is supporting ,those in need within our Community ,and assessing how we could assist. The Church supports 6 other churches with food parcels, plus residents who need food parcels. We originally were thinking of having a Soup Kitchen type setup ,based on Sydney Coves Breakfast at St Stephens Church ,Macquarie St Sydney. Sam and Fred realised that the Church was in need of a building to work out of and , as we aren’t Real Estate agents ,we couldn’t assist
We will continue in or efforts to find ways of assisting our Community
*Guest Speakers. Rotary Meetings will recommence in our normal format from Jan/Feb next year ,we are looking for Guest Speakers, Are there Speakers that you could recommend,
*I would also appreciate if a Burwood Rotarian would take on the roll of Program Director
For the remainder of this Rotary Year and possibly for Fred’s year . Please give this real consideration.
We finished with Pizzas and a drink at 8.45, Thankyou Keith for your hospitality
*Next Meeting at Fuad and Lourice' s 22 nd November 6 PM start. .
Another informative Wright Talk with DG Jeremy. This time we hear from new members about why they joined Rotary. The Climate and Peace Webinar on EVs. The PCYC needs BBQ help, Strathfield Lifts the Lid, the AGM and who is that mystery harmonica player. Everything you need to know now!
The promised easing of COVID restrictions and the reopening of schools is welcomed by District’s youth program committees. During 2021 many programs, such as RYPEN, RYLA and YEP had to be to be abandoned and others, such as MUNA, were poorly attended. School closures prevented our club maintaining contact with the local students and the teachers who support our youth programs. However, the future looks much brighter.
Rotary Youth Exchange - making a difference - Reflections from a Reunion 30 years later.
The Year is 1991, two busses full of Rotary Exchange Students enter a parking lot in Sydney after 3 weeks around Australia on the “Capricorn Ramble Tour”. Saying goodbye was heart-breaking, knowing that we would soon be back home and maybe never see each other again.
Jumping to September 2021, downtown Frankfurt on a Friday afternoon in brilliant weather. Stepping out of the car to greet 3 people I have not seen for 30 year in front of their hotel.
