Acting Pres PP John Mansour opened the meeting at 6.26 with the Rotary Affirmation

PP Tony Clark passed away this week. Details regarding funeral arrangements in Spoke. . PP John and PP Keith had memories of Tony's time and active involvement in our Club.

Sec PP Tim       Bank statements – need a treasurer to replace Pres Fred. Statements are going to Theo at the moment. Financials need to be signed off but has not happened yet. We need to approve the accounts at the AGM.

NYSF Science programe for Year 11 We usually send two candidates. 

Tree of Joy Mary-Anne - Eurella New Location Burwood Library- tree up next week, as well as Burwood Plaza, Strathfield Pvt Hosp Ashfield Shopping Centre BCWS helping and will do the wrapping Will be branded RC Burwood Have arranged someone to pick up and drop off, This program has been running since 1992 Possibly each Member could put a hamper together for distribution. Maybe basket or box, Only non perishable goods, food and health care products, or just take cards from the Trees and supply goods.

Rod Whitney re Peter Moore Youth events. We have the bank details to transfer the money for NYSF 3 students,

PRISCA night John Mansour, Need to ring schools, Liam and Anna were Rotaractors and determined to make the night successful. Need \to speak to schools. So need 7-8 people to ring the schools, Volunteers arranged Walter, Keith, Fifi,  Peter Hamer. There is a script to ring a particular person,

Marilee gave us a presentation of some of the dresses  we may be modelling.

Strathfield RC BBQ trailer Selling their trailer They have a BBQ Trailer and a graffiti trailer, and a ute, Initially after whether they want to pay part of the running costs, but now selling it, Sam and Keith to go and look, No storage for tables,

Hugo doing Movember raised 500.00 so far for mens Mental health,

Greek migrated at age 12 with his family of 5 boys. It was 48 days by boat His father was here two years earlier before he sent for them to come. He went to school to learn English. He met his wife when she was 8 and he was 12. He has four children - 3 girls and a boy. Only Paul is married.

He has spent 22 years in Burwood. Introduced by Garry Michael and joined Rotary His girls did Rotary programs including Interact at Meridan His wife has diabetes and so happy to raise funds with Fifi. He has been fund raising all his life in the Greek community.

Pre Covid brought all his children back home from overseas and they never went back

Paul married in Jan and now he is a a grandfather to a baby girl , He is still working as has three girls to eventually marry off. Comes from a Greek Peloponnes region in the South of Greece, .

Going back to Greece in July and intends to build a weekender on his parents property. If he registers his marriage, his Son Paul can be drafted in Greece in the event of a conflict. The Greek economy is getting better but it is in hugh dept. His mother passed away last month. His Father lived to age 97

Greek dowry explained. His Father youngest of 6, left hone at 13 and at 15 went somewhere else, so he didn't it to happen to his children so he moved to Australasia, Every one migrated,

DIABETES ALIVE.

Thankyou and Fundraiser November 26th

This is organised by Fifi Hazzouri to assist and raise  funds for children with Type 1  Diabetes

Burwood Rotary has supported Fifi  and raised funds in conjunction  with other Rotary Clubs and Variety to purchase Type 1 Insulin pumps for Children

In total approximately $300,000 has been raised ,providing 30 pumps to children in real need, and the need is endless

Please support this most worthwhile  event ,you will see me and other Burwood Rotarians and partners there on the night

Fellows here is the latest from Juvie in Gingoog, they returned from the Helping Hand mission, and are now preparing for the next. We have some donations coming in, thank you, and will send every dollar over for these missions.

Report from Gingoog by PP Walter Bock 

Dear Friends and supporters,

I received another email from Juvie and MinPRA in Gingoog. Somehow, miraculously they avoided much damage to themselves. On the compound it appears two fruit trees came down and the other crop was damaged. On the mountain property the damage was even less. They hate asking for help but they would like to help the island of Dinagat where Vera took a team on a SewAID Mission a couple of years ago.

Rotary Youth Exchange - making a difference - Reflections from a Reunion 30 years later.
 
The Year is 1991, two busses full of Rotary Exchange Students enter a parking lot in Sydney after 3 weeks around Australia on the “Capricorn Ramble Tour”. Saying goodbye was heart-breaking, knowing that we would soon be back home and maybe never see each other again.
 
Jumping to September 2021, downtown Frankfurt on a Friday afternoon in brilliant weather. Stepping out of the car to greet 3 people I have not seen for 30 year in front of their hotel.

Burwood Rotary 50th Anniversary Charitable Trust
The Rotary Club of Burwood has created the 50th Anniversary Charitable Trust with the overall charitable purpose of "relieving poverty and the advancement of education or any other matter beneficial to the community". Funds are awarded to persons who satisfy the Trustees that they are financially disadvantaged and are undertaking some form of further study/sporting endeavour beneficial to themselves and to the community in general.
